Best and Worst of 2013

There’s a mighty big ball about to drop in Times Square and Mother and I already have our party hats on. That can only mean one thing. Well, two things.

First, I'll need to make sure Mother's hat elastic isn’t too tight. (Last year’s celebration became known as the “blue face” incident.) And secondly, it’s time for my best and worst caker recipes of 2013!

Which dish walks away the champ? And which dish slithers away in shame like a lump of saturated fat on a hot linoleum floor?

Find out by clicking here or on the tab in the upper right hand corner.

  1. Surely you jest about your poor Mum and her hat (elastic)?!
Its gotta be that banana candle thingy as far as best is concerned. Doesn't it?
Happy 2014 Brian. Don't comment often, but I love your blog.

    1. Truth be told, it was MY elastic - not Mother's - that was a little tight. I looked like a blueberry by the time midnight struck. Feel free to comment more, Kylie. I always appreciate hearing from readers.

    1. I making you a trophy right now. It will be covered in dry macaroni and spray painted gold.

Happy New Year to you, as well!

    1. Let me know if you make the ketchup cake, Lisa. Some of my taste testers thought it was better than tomato soup cake. I smell a controversy brewing.

Best wishes for 2014 to you, too!

  4. Brian, I've been throwing out old books. Unexpectedly I came across a book called " The Magic Of Jell-O
100 New And Favourite Recipes Celebrating 100 Years of of Fun with Jell-O. Strangely enough, my first instinct was to throw it out ,but then I got your Caker Cooking blog post in -and I put it back on my book shelf. How does "Fruited Squares " sound, or perhaps" Foamy Peach Snack"?

    Happy New Year, fellow Caker!

    1. Good on you for keeping that cookbook. It's going to worth thousands one day. You just wait.
JELL-O is like that bad relationship for me - you know it's never going to work out but you just keep going back for more. Although I admit that Foamy Peach Snack sounds interesting. Dare I ask what makes it foamy?
